What is WebP and Why Use It?
WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web. By using WebP, webmasters and developers can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster.
Key features of our WebP Converter:
- Batch conversion: Convert multiple images (PNG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, SVG) at the same time.
- Compression controls: Adjust the quality level to find the perfect balance between file size and image clarity.
- Live statistics: Instantly see the original size, the compressed size, and the percentage of saved bandwidth.
- Visual comparison: Side-by-side split screen view with a slider to inspect visual quality before downloading.
- 100% Client-Side: All operations run directly in your web browser. No files are uploaded to any server. Your privacy is fully preserved.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Our WebP Converter runs completely client-side. The image conversion is done using the HTML5 Canvas API in your browser. Your files never leave your computer, making it extremely secure and private.
What is the recommended quality setting?
We recommend a quality setting of 80%. This generally yields a file size reduction of 60% to 80% compared to JPG/PNG, with virtually imperceptible visual differences.
Does WebP support transparent backgrounds?
Yes! WebP fully supports transparency (alpha channel) in both lossy and lossless modes, making it a perfect replacement for PNG images.
Are animated GIFs supported?
This client-side tool extracts the first frame of animated GIFs and converts it to a static WebP image. Full multi-frame animated GIF to animated WebP conversion is not supported natively via browser Canvas API.
